The thought that doctors are only dedicated to their profession and have no personal life whatsoever is a complete myth. True, that being a doctor is a tough job. Having to deal with life and death daily is a daunting task. Spending several hours in the operation theater with no breaks is challenging. It calls out to someone who isn’t just tough himself, but also extremely brave.
But at the end of the day, all doctors, too, are humans, and like everyone else, they too, need to let off the stress from the daily hip and happenings. What makes the perfect doctor is maintaining the balance between their professional and personal lives, and no one does it better than the devoted yet high-spirited Dr. Hamad Al Jaber.
THE MULTI-TALENTED KID
Dr. Hamad Mohamed Al Jaber was born on February 27, 1973. Being the eldest to three, Dr. Hamad was always the responsible yet jolly kid. His father, Mohamed Hassan Al Jaber, was an Ambassador of Qatar, who had been assigned in Germany, Switzerland, and Japan. At the same time, his Mother, Layla Al Jaber, was a Geography High School Educator.
Dr. Hamad’s roots are deep in the religion of Islam. His great paternal grandfather, Mohamad Bin Jaber, is a well-known Islamic Scholar. Acquiring the influence of religion from everyone around him, Dr. Hamad bloomed into a person of strong faith and values.
A student at Tareq Ben Ziyad Preparatory School and Qatar Preparatory School through his primary education years, Dr. Hamad always knew the value of good grades. From a very young age, Dr. Hamad showed qualities of brilliance and intelligence, with his prime focus being on getting good grades, which were recognized even through his primary school years.
After he completed his primary school years, Dr. Hamad joined the Al Istiqlal Secondary School to get his secondary education. There, Dr. Hamad’s brilliance wasn’t just proved through good marks and perfect scores; he also became one of the most multi-talented kids throughout his school.
Dr. Hamad became a member of the Scientific Club, where he used his sharp mind. He also became a smart chess player, portraying impeccable judgment from such a young age. Dr. Hamad also directed his energy to learn poetry. He also showed great talent in art, which was appreciated by his school when he did calligraphy for the school and was given the excellence award.
A few years later, Dr. Hamad even picked up Taxidermy, which in turn awakened his curiosity in anatomy, and this experience broadened his knowledge about the human body later on.
He also became an athlete, participating in several sports, including handball, in which he was a goalkeeper. Taking his side interest in learning martial arts to greater heights, Dr. Hamad also learned Taekwondo. The doctor has a black belt for the sport!
Dr. Hamad also joined several inter-school competitions. Due to his achievements, Dr. Hamad was also asked to represent his school in Maths and Physics inter-school quiz bees. In 1990, he graduated from the school with a GPA of 95.8%.
The following year, Dr. Hamad entered the Irish High School and completed his Irish Certificate and Matriculation (the equivalent of Senior High School.)
FULFILLING THE DREAM TO BE A DOCTOR
However, talented as Dr. Hamad was, he was always sure, he had to become a doctor. He wanted to be able to make a difference in people’s lives. As a child, he was very close to his maternal Uncle, Dr. Mohammed Jaber, who is a Pediatric Doctor. Due to his influence, Dr. Hamad became sure that he wanted to be a doctor.
In 1997, Dr. Hamad joined the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), where he earned his degree in Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics. The same year, he began working at the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
Keeping his passion for sports alive, Dr. Hamad became the sports doctor for the Qatar National Team in Taekwondo. He was also the attending physician in some of the major international sports competitions that the team joined. Dr. Hamad was also the doctor for the team when they played for the World Championship in South Korea. He then became a Member of the Medical Committee of the Arabian Taekwondo Federation.
He became a Specialist in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery RCSI in 2003, earning his membership from RSCI. The following year, Dr. Hamad took his exam and successfully passed the Arab Board Council for Surgical Specialties. He also got his professional affiliations, which include Member of International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and Rhinoplasty Society of Europe.
In 2006, Dr. Hamad was promoted as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon for Hamad Medical Corporation. In 2012, he became the Senior Consultant Plastic Surgeon, and two years later, he decided to work in the private sector.
As of today, Dr. Hamad runs his own clinic, PHI Clinics for Plastic Surgery, one of the sought after plastic surgery clinics in Qatar. He is part of the visiting faculty of West Bay Medicare and Doha Clinic Hospital, an Alumni at Harvard Business School, and a former member of the International Burns Society and a member of the council in Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Preparatory School for two years in a row.
He attends several international conventions in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Body Contouring, Facial and Aesthetic Reconstruction regularly.
He also became a member of the Permanent Licensing Committee in the Supreme Council of Health Qatar, until 2018, but continuing to provide his support as a Healthcare Consultant, due to his expertise in several government firms, plastic surgery, evaluations, and legal cases.
Dr. Hamad is also an investor of two aesthetic and plastic surgery products distributing companies; Proderma, a leading specialty company based in the Middle East, and Summit Medical, a company locally based in Qatar.
KEEPING HIS INTEREST ALIVE
Even though Dr. Hamad is an esteemed doctor, he is a firm believer in balance in life. Wholly dedicated to giving his patients the best care, the doctor also devotes time to himself and has diversity in his lifestyle. Besides bringing smiles to his patients, Dr. Hamad is compelled to serve the community.
He also works on personal development and loves reading business management books as well as personal development books. During his spare time, he always finds time to read books; he read the life story of Beethoven and Leonardo Da Vinci when he was in 5th grade. He is well-read and has a vast collection of books from Arabic Books to other international bestsellers.
Dr. Hamad also takes some time out for himself to practice water sports, including diving, in which he holds eleven certifications! He is also a travel enthusiast, and adores visiting new places and people. He also likes riding his motorbikes. He was featured in Jordan newspaper when he attended the Harley Davidson event to ride around Jordan.
He is also passionate about the arts and culture. He was a part of the Qatar Fine Arts Society from 1999-2001 and participated in local exhibitions to display his artworks.
Dr. Hamad is also a social activist, cares a lot for his causes and donates in charitable institutions. One of his advocacies is to inspire the youth. He firmly believes that the influencing the younger generation and instilling good values in them will help shape a brighter future not just for themselves but for the country.
Dr. Hamad is living proof that while being a dedicated doctor, one can also have several other interests and add color to their lives. For Dr. Hamad, Plastic Surgery is not just a profession but a form of art. The face and body are his blank canvas; his surgical tools are his paintbrushes. He can express his artistic vibes as a plastic surgeon, which is why he is well-known for being detail-oriented and always looks at the minute details to achieve a great work of art!
