Niyah Smith has been in the music business for about 10 years. Smith is currently the A&R Manager at 54 London, Stefflon Don’s imprint label with Universal Music Group. On the side he has taken up the musician label by producing and writing records. Niyah has amassed over 100,000 views on youtube with his debut record “No Kickers” with fellow East London native SNE.
For the last two years Niyah has been focusing on the A&R side of the music industry, now he has just dropped his debut album entitled “Ambition”, we asked him a few questions about the album.
(Q) What made you step into the musician field?
(A) I have a strong passion for music, the thing about the music scene is a lot of different departments tie in with each other. I love writing, I love producing.
(Q) Tell us about the album ambition?
(A) I have been working on this album for over a year, of course I have been busy with my A&R manager position, which limited my time to focus on my own works. I dedicated a day every week to do something new for my project. I have some great feature artists on the record.
(Q) Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
(A) I would like to be a very respected executive producer in the music industry along with becoming a head of A&R at a major label.
(Q) What have you learnt over the years in the music industry?
(A) To me, knowledge is key! Considering I’m still growing in the industry, I love to transfer knowledge to upcoming musicians or A&Rs like myself as I never really had anybody sharing the tools I now have access to. Relationships are key.
Niyah continues to build his portfolio by keeping his hands in many different pies.
