There are two main types of injuries caused due to car accidents, firstly the impact injuries and secondly the penetrating injuries. When a person’s body hits some part of the car interiors, an impact injury is caused. Most of the time it is the knee hitting the dashboard or the head getting hit to the seat rest or the window.
When there are cuts and scrapes it is said that the injured has got a penetrating injury. These injuries are usually caused by the shattered glass or any loose object hitting the person inside the car with impact.
The soft tissue injury is caused when the vehicular accident damages the body’s connective tissue, including the muscles, ligaments and tendons. It can take many forms and is found to be the most common type of injury resulting from a car accident. Whiplash type injury is a type of soft tissue injury where the neck or the upper back or both get injured.
Due to the sudden shock or movement in the accident, the muscles and the ligaments get stretched in the head and neck causing the whiplash type of injury. Sometimes even the back gets affected with the same force and mechanism causing soft tissue injuries.
Often the mid back and the lower back develops sprains that even leads to serious back injuries due to the forceful impact during the car accident. The spine is impacted by the force. During the car collision, if there are any loose objects lying in the car or a part of car interior or the shattered glass can hit the person driving the car causing minor to major injuries.
Items including cell phones, coffee mugs, eyeglasses, purses, books, dash-mounted GPS systems, can hit your body, cutting the skin and causing an injury. Severe to minor injuries can be caused as the car takes an unexpected stop or changes the direction due to the accident.
