CHICAGO – Representative Bobby Rush’s comment on the protest of the Chicago police union on April 1 has sparked up a rift between him and the Chicago police union. This statement came because several white nationalists were present among the Chicago police union during the protest.
The protest was to express displeasure at the decision taken by the Attorney of Cook County State, Kim Foxx to drop the charges leveled against the popular actor Jussie Smollett, who stared in the TV series “Empire” and also a black gay. The charge stated that the actor was faking hating crime against himself. The protest by the Chicago police union was countered by an outcry from members of left-wing groups including the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression.
Reacting to this, the President of Chicago Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7, Kevin Graham said that the statement of Rep. Rush during the weekend is of no value and it is defaming the Chicago Police Union’s image.
Attorney Foxx in her statement denied that the black gay actor received any treatment out of the norm from her office and has turned a blind eye to various critics calling for her resignation.
Graham has accused Rush of increasing the heat of racial division through his comment on many platforms. Graham also said that such criticism coming out from the mouth of someone of Rush’s caliber and also a co-founder of the Black Panther Party’s Illinois chapter created in the 1960s shows a big difference between the police and the civilians.
Before Graham ended his statement where he demanded an apology from Rush, he pointed out that Chicago’s Police union is made up of 25 percent of African-American.
