Generating genetically edited babies is ethically not approved by any scientific organization or country in the world. Such a blundering experiment was carried out by a scientist named He Jiankui. The scientist is however reported missing and a rumor in the air suggests that the Chinese authorities might have held him up.
The scientist presented his work of human gene editing using CRISPR technology for which he was castigated. The creation of the first gene-altered baby in the world by He Jiankui was full of grave errors and lacked the protocols of ethical essence. He Jiankui was a former worker at Shenzhen University. The university stated that they do not have any information regarding He Jiankui, but if they get any, they will update the same through formal channels. No assured news is available regarding the welfare of the scientist.
Some mention that the scientist is probably hiding currently to avoid justification of his work to Ministry of Science and Technology of China. The act is highly condemned and is completely against moral ethics. Such actions should be taken into serious considerations and the scientist should be punished for this. A punishment is a must, say some people, to avoid discourage other scientists who might follow the lead of HeJiankui and guide science into darkness.
