Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired defenseman Adam McQuaid from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenseman Julius Bergman as well as 4th and 7th round picks in 2019’s draft.
The Blue Jackets had also recently acquired Ottawa Senators’ forwards Ryan Dzingel and Matt Duchene and New Jersey Devils’ backup goalie, Keith Kinkaid.
After trading the 4th and 7th round picks to the Rangers for acquiring McQuaid, the Blue Jackets are now left with just 3rd and 7th round picks for this year’s draft.
Meanwhile, it seems like the Rangers are on a spree to collect and stockpile 2019 draft picks. Currently, the team has 10 picks for this year, which includes 5 picks in the first 2 rounds.
Notably, the 32-year-old McQuaid was acquired by the Rangers this season from the team Boston Bruins originally. In the 36 games that he has played, McQuaid has tallied 3 assists and 2 goals and maintained an average 17:28 minutes in each game.
Besides, Rangers also traded winger Mats Zuccarello to the Dallas Rangers and center Kevin Hayes to the Winnipeg Jets as the team works towards rebuilding their effort. As per Rangers GM Jeff Gorton, the team hopes to get better in a quick fashion for this season with their recently added assets- young prospects as well as draft picks.
