On Thursday in Venezuela, Luis Valbuena, the former Angels player of Los Angeles and Jose Castillo, the former journeyman infielder were killed in a car accident. As reported by the Orange County Register both of them were in a car when their vehicle got hit by a rock and turned aside the road. Carlos Rivero, the Former Arizona Diamondbacks infielder was driving the car and safely escaped the accident.
Valbuena of 33 years and Castillo of 37 years of age were in Venezuelan winter baseball league and both were teammates playing in the Cardenales de Lara as per the Athletic.
In a tweet, the Angels said that they are deeply disheartened to hear the news of the death of Luis Valbuena, the former Angel and José Castillo, the former MLB infielder. They extended their sympathy and prayers towards their near and dear ones.
Valbuena began his career with the Seattle Mariners in 2008. In the majors, he played 11 seasons. He played for the Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros and last played for the Angels during the 2018 season. In August, he was released. He set the record of .226 batting average having 114 home runs along with 367 RBI.
Castillo began his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates and then joined the San Francisco Giants before finishing with the Astros. He played from 2004 to 2008, i.e. 5 seasons in the majors. He made a record of .254 batting average having 39 home runs including 218 RBI.
