SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. — The winner of the $1.6 bn winning Mega Millions ticket that was sold in Simpsonville in the month of October has yet not claimed the prize.
The ticket was sold on October 24 at the KC Mart #7 at 303 Lee Vaughn Road.
The winner has got a total of 180 days for claiming the prize. If the winner does claim the prize money, the KC Mart will not be getting the $50,000 prize to sell the winning ticket.
CJ Patel, who is KC Mart’s owner, says he doesn’t know who actually bought the ticket.
Patel said that if he gets the money, he will be splitting a part of it among his 4 employees.
We may never be able to know who the winner is, as winners in South Carolina can opt to remain anonymous.
If the ticket remains unclaimed, the money will then be split among the states participating in the Mega Millions lottery.
South Carolina will also miss out on a whopping $60 mn in unrestricted tax revenue.
