December 2019 has been one of the coldest Decembers in several years in Northern India. The minimum temperatures have touched 1.6 degrees in Delhi-NCR, leaving several roadside dwellers and their families shivering and wanting for warmth. They have been the worst affected in the severe weather conditions.
eWandzDigital, a digital media and technology company based out of Noida, India, took a small step towards spreading warmth by organizing a drive to distribute warm clothes to roadside dwellers and construction workers in the Noida region on December 30. Employees and HR braved the fog and cold winds on the coldest day to be out there and distribute woollen jackets, sweaters, caps, socks, warmers, and other winter essentials to such families. They also distributed food and snacks to the children in these families.
In September this year, eWandzDigital had organized plantation drive. Planting a tree is one of the most effective ways to contribute to the environment. Today, when rising pollution levels and global warming are posing a threat to the ecological balance, planting more and more trees is the need of the hour.
Employees who are part of such CSR drives develop a high sense of belonging to and responsibility towards their environment and the society they live and work in. “Every season, and not just the festive season, should be seen as an opportunity to give”, says Pankaj Kumar, Founder Director at eWandzDigital. Preeta Chandran, CEO, adds, “NGOs certainly do a lot of meaningful work, but there is so much need, so much that can be better, and so many out there who need a helping hand. Not just organizations, but individuals too can do their bit and make a difference.”
The case in point highlights a trend where Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) in India are as conscious about social responsibilities as larger corporations. This is heartening to see. After all, a tiny flame can serve to dispel darkness.
