The Ugandan police have declared the arrest of suspects connected with the kidnap of Kim Endicott, an American tourist, and her field guard, Jean-Paul Mirenge Ramezo. This was after the duo was released five days after being kidnapped.
In the Kanungu district, several people were arrested during raids, and extensive searches and further investigations and searches are still in place to apprehend more.
The arrests were made a few hours after President Trump of the United States made a tweet imploring Uganda to bring the kidnappers of the Ameican Tourist and her guide.
A week ago, Mirenge and Endicott were kidnapped at gunpoint at the Queen Elizabeth National Park, were held for a ransom of $500,000 and released on Sunday.
Endicott is an aesthetician from Costa Mesa, California. She came to Uganda for a safari ride n order to fulfill a lifelong dream of seeing gorillas in the wild. While out in the park with Mirenge and two others, their van was held up by armed men who collected the keys to the safari vehicle and kidnapped Endicott and Mirenge while leaving the other two behind.
Till the period of this report, it is still unclear whether a ransom was paid to secure their release or not. However, an anonymous informant claimed a ransom was paid to secures Endicott’s release although officials working on the case vehemently denied. Details of arrests made are still unclear as the authorities haven’t issued an official statistics.
Endicott met with the United States Ambassador to Uganda on Monday in Kampala while Mirenge hasn’t been reunited with his family nor did he travel to Kampala with Endicott on Monday.
