Tourism Industry of Iceland has been growing significantly for past 15 years. It has been contributing about 10% to the Icelandic GDP since 2016. The number of tourists had exceeded two million in 2017 for the first time. This growth in tourism is allowing the tourism industry to hold a share of nearly 30% of the country’s export revenue. Tourism facilities and services provided by the country are counted as reasons for the significant growth in tourist visits.
A few years earlier, the number of tourists visiting Iceland did not even exceed 80,000 in a single year. But now the tourist visits are increasing quickly and helping to improve the earlier stats.
Currently, Iceland is experiencing great growth in tourists and in just a few months, the tourist visits are even exceeding the total population of the country. According to the Icelandic Tourist Board, there was a growth of 595,000 tourists in 2000, in terms of a number of overnight stays by foreign people. And in 2014, it rose to 4.4 million.
