USA – United Airlines have decided to cover up all cameras located behind the seats after receiving many feedbacks and complaints from the passengers. Now the passengers can travel without any fear of being recorded.
In all United Airlines, cameras are installed behind the seat with the entertainment section. According to the airlines’ feedback report, many passengers have raised their voice over their privacy concern on board. Passengers have usually questioned crew members regarding their security, since installing a camera in front of the seat may capture their personal activities.
According to the explanation given by the airlines, “the cameras are in non-operational mode and they are installed to give webcam and video conference services in future”.
A Spokesperson of an airline told Fox News that the airline has never activated any camera during flight and they have not planned to use them in future yet. The cameras are provided by the manufacturer and they have not been used for any feature till now.
In February 2019, Singapore Airlines had also gone through the same issue, where some passengers reported the installation of hidden cameras behind the seats and below the entertainment section. Many passengers had even posted the pictures on social media to know about its purpose during flight.
Singapore airlines have also given the same explanation as United airlines are giving now. The Singapore airlines’ officials had said, “The cameras are in disabled condition and they will not be operational without informing the passengers”.
